Task 3 Flip books

Flip Book

Ideas

A flip book or flick book it is a series of pictures or photos that vary gradually from one page to another. When you turn the pages really fast it looks like a video or an animation.

To create a good flip book you will need around 50 photos and they have to be taken in less than a second.

Idea #1
I will take photos of cars going past me. I will take about 100 photos by using a multiple photos option on my camera.

Idea #2
I will photograph a person dancing and jumping in the air.

Idea #3
I will photograph someone's hand drawing something on a piece of paper.

Darkroom research

Darkroom is a room which allows the processing of  light sensitive photographic materials like photographic film and photographic paper. Darkrooms have been used since 19th century and they are very useful and even though nowadays there are different and easier ways of developing photos, people still use darkrooms.

Photographic printing is the process of producing a final image on paper for viewing, using chemically sensitized paper. The paper is exposed to a photographic negative, a positive transparency (or slide), or a digital image file projected using an enlarger or digital exposure unit such as a LightJet printer. Alternatively, the negative or transparency may be placed on the top of the paper and directly exposed, creating a contact print. Photographs are more commonly printed on plain paper, for example by a colour printer, but this is not considered "photographic printing".

Unit 35 editing

Unit 5 Task 1a - research

'Looking for love' (Tom Wood, 1985)
It's a contemporary image which I've found using the books in the library. It shows movement in many ways. The photographer used flash so people on the photo are not blurry but the background is. You can't see the people moving but you can see the emotions and you can imagine what would happen next.
It's a single image. The techniques used create a very good image, showing the movement but in a different way.
If a photographer used multiple images/long exposure that photo could look a little bit better but it would loose its identity.
The photographer probably used a digital camera and the image is very colourful.

                                                   Terence Chang, San Francisco
It's a contemporary image which I've found using internet.
This image was taken using long exposure and that makes it look so good and interesting. This image was taken using a digital camera and colour. You can see the movement and the way the planes fly and the city at night.

It's a historical image which I've found using internet.
It's an long exposure image and it's black and white.
It was created many years ago and it looks good because it gives a very big impression of movement People are almost too blurry to tell if it's a big crowd or just few people.

Aperture: f3.2

To take this photo I had to shake my camera and turn it upside down. I wasn't shaking my camera fast, I was trying to do it steady and use a circle motion to create that effect. I like it because it gives the impression of spinning around a person or an object.

Aperture: f3.6

To capture the movement I asked Amy to shake her head really fast. I've kept the camera still by putting it on the stairs. I like this image because it's different to the other one and it shows different type of movement.

ISO: 100
Shutter speed: 4
Aperture: f8

To photograph it I asked Rachel to stay in the same place but wave so it would look like only the hands are moving and the rest would stay still. I don't like this photo because it looks like her whole body is moving and the image is almost too blurry. You can still see the motion but it's not a good photo.

ISO:100
Shutter speed: 6
Aperture: f3.6

To take this photo I've asked people who were sat on the stairs not to move. I was sat opposite them and I was shaking my camera to the left and to the right. It looks like they are about to fall down and that's why I like that photo. It creates the impression of movement even though the two people on the photo were not moving.

Aperture: f3.2

I've asked Rachel to dance very fast because I was trying to capture the movement of the whole body. I kept my camera still. I like this photo because you can't see her face or arms and that shows how fast she was dancing. I like it because it's different to the other photos but it still shows the motion.

unit 3 cubism and futurism covers

pre task unit 3

task 3 part 2 unit 3

Unit 3 Task 2

Cubism and Futurism Ideas

Cubism

  • a person (whole body or just face). I have to take few photos of different parts of someone's face or body and then put them together so they look like a one, messy photo.
  • a photo of a situation (you can't see the movements). For example a visit to a dentist. You can see that something is happening but nothing's blurry. I can take photos of different parts of the room and people and then put them together as one.
  • I can photograph someone's face from different angles and zoom in and out. Then put the photos together to create a cubist image.
Futurism
  • a person playing golf (a golf club will be blurry). I have to photograph a person hitting a ball because the movements are going to be easy to see.
  • a person running (wearing sports clothes), A person has to run quite fast. On the photo you will be able to see the movement of a whole body.
  • a dog jumping in the air or wiggling its tail. To take a photo I can use one or a few dogs and someone else can make them jump up so I can see the movement. I can take a photo of a happy dog and its tail so the only thing that will be blurry will be the tail. The rest of the dog will look normal unless the dog decides to run around too.
Location:
  • my house
  • my boyfriend's house
  • a long path near my house
  • golf club
Lighting:
  • artificial
  • natural
Props/Items:
  • dogs
  • my boyfriend
  • my sister
  • a golf club
  • a camera
Timing:
setting up - 10 mins
photographing - 30 mins
travelling - 2-20 mins
cost - £0-4

Photo shoot plan

  1. I have to get a bus to my boyfriend's house, set up the camera and other important stuff. I have to let the dogs out of his house and let them run around the garden for a while (that will make them happy). I have to get ready to take some photos while they are still enjoying running around the garden. They are supposed to look happy and the movement have to be visible. I will probably take around 20-25 photos and pick the right one.
  2. I have to go outside my house and do the same setting up as last time. Then I have to ask my sister to run in front of the camera and don't stop. It will create a blurry image. She has to run really fast.
  3. For this, me and my boyfriend will stay inside my house. He will stand near the light bulb. I photograph him about ten times from different angles and different parts of his face.
  4. Me and my boyfriend will have to go to the nearest golf club. He will swing a club really fast and it will be blurry.
